Believe it or not, but this is my son's favorite day after his birthday :-) I don't blame him, he has the greatest teacher ever and I really do mean it!
She is smart, charismatic, strict but fair, overall the most amazing teacher we could have wished for! Not to brag or anything...but yes :-) we do brag! :-) And why shouldn't we?! She is incredible and we love her and we really wanted to do something nice for her for the first day of school.
I was thinking what to get her...flowers sounded pretty standard, so I came up with the idea to make her a bouquet of pencils :-)
I run to the store and bought everything I needed and voila!
It took me not more than 20-30 minutes to make it, but mostly because I was coming up with the design at the same time :-)
The scarecrow I bought from the store, but I thought it was nice finishing touch.
I've glued different kind of pencils to the bamboo vase and then used multi-color yarn as a finishing touch.
Some of the pencils are with "flower" heads, I made them from yarn and buttons:
This is the back of the vase-

Dobruzhanki - Baking soda bread rolls

This is one recipe that my family likes a lot but personally I have a reason to like it even better- they are the most easy bread rolls you can make and on top of that they are without yeast. Dobrudzhanki are very popular in Bulgaria, especially as breakfast rolls. They are named after a Northern-East part of Bulgaria - Dobrudzha. They are also popular as Marzelivki ( which means "lazy ones").
The ingredients are:
- 2 cups yogurt ( I make yogurt at home, that is more sour than the one in store which gives it a specific flavor, but you can very well use the store bought as well)
- 2 tsp baking soda
-1/2 tsp salt ( if you are using feta cheese do not use any salt!)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
-5 cups flour ( sifted)
- 1/2 stick butter ( hard, not melted!)
- 1 cup Parmesan cheese ( you can use feta, it's even better)
Toppings and fillings as you like- sesame, poppy seed, dry onion, bacon etc.
It makes 20 rolls
Preheat the over at 375 or 390 F ( depends on the oven). In a mixer bowl mix the yogurt and baking soda. It will make a reaction, because the yogurt is sour, so it is perfectly normal to notice the bubbles that are going to come out on top of the mixture. Add the salt, vegetable oil and slowly add flour while stirring.
Add the Parmesan and/or the other fillings and stir by hand.
Pour a little bit oil in a cup and get your hands oily as much as possible, then take a handful of dough and shape it as a roll. Place the roll on a greased pan, place the toppings you like and a small piece of butter on top of each roll ( you can push it a little bit down). Bake for 20 min or until golden on top. Serve warm!
Enjoy!
Wish, wish, wish!
Yes, you've guessed right, it's the "wish time" of the year for me! :-)
I had a beautiful surprise ( thanks honey!!!), a relaxing day, no guests at all! Just doing whatever we wished for! All day!
I had a simple "cake" that was something between parfait and cheesecake, I just came up with the recipe according to the refrigerator's content. It took me 15 minutes to make it the previous night. The "cake" was incredibly delicious for the time I spend making it :-)
I combined 2 cups sour cream, 1 cup cream cheese, 1 can condensed milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract, then I prepared the gelatin mixture ( you know, 1/2 cup cold water with 2 1/2 tbsp gelatin, then 1/2 boiling water, stir and add to the cream mixture) and mixed it on low speed with the mixer. On top of a frozen cake layer I had left I've places frozen cherries and canned apricots,( that's the only thing I had, you can substitute with whatever you want) I poured the cream mixture then left in the refrigerator overnight. Next day I covered with chocolate ganache. The topping is cookie crumbs and walnuts and of course the cocktail cherries as a finishing touch! Yummmmy!
I'm making a list of 30 things to do before I turn 30( next year) and I'm still on the 22nd , so wish me luck to finish it before I turn 30 LoL :-)
So, Happy birthday to me! :-)
