Ok, I won't torment you any more!!!
Here are the pictures from the October Cake challenge that we organized from the BG-Mamma forum!
This is my cake of course :-):
I take great pride in the tail :-)The actual bird took me a week, not because it was that difficult, but it was very tricky and VERY FRAGILE and that alone was enough to give me some trouble :-)
Thanks again to Scott Clark Wooley, I had my luster dust in time! I almost had a heart attack when I found out that I ran out and it was a day before I was supposed to cut the cake :-)My cake was about the legend of the Firebird, a Bulgarian fairytale, concerning golden apple and a bird ;-)
You can check the whole album here, to see how I made the bird, the cake etc.
My oven wasn't working right, so I couldn't bake the bottom tier ( huge mistake), so I had to use a different( caramel cake), less stable than the fruit cake I had for the top and middle tier. This led to a structural problem, then the lights I used when taking the pictures started to melt the fondant, it was not a very good photo shoot :-) But I know where my mistake was, I've done better before on the structure, so I am sure it was one time problem :-)
I am going to post probably in the next couple of days the recipes.
If you have any questions or comments, you can either use the blog or you can leave comments right under the pictures in Flickr.
See you very very soon ( I have another cake to make for 10th)!

awesome cake!!! The detail is amazing! truly beautiful cake!! Great Job Annie!
Thank you very much, Beth! It took a lot of work! I made everything from fondant, so I had to wait for it to dry up beore adding new "feathers".
But I am happy with the result :-)
I can't imagine being able to put the details on there that you did. Truly a great piece of art!!
Patience is the key ;-)
So, are we going to the Tulsa competition next year or not ,what do you say :-)?
you, definitely! Me, are you kidding? I'd be competing at the kid's table! besides, I don't fly well, can't drive that far by myself and couldn't afford it anyway. But thanks for the invite. I'll just watch for your creations and cheer you on from my computer table! by the way, are you on facebook?
Beth, I'm not talking about actually participating in the contest, I don't think I am ready about something like that. I am not that much experienced, I have only made 14 cakes so far, people have been doing cakes for 14 years :-)
I'm thinking of getting cable so I can watch the Food Channel etc, I have never watched it before and I hear it is good, not to mention they cover the Tulsa competition. Have you seen it this year? You are right about the money though, I was about to go this year and because of the ridiculous flight timings I was supposed to stay there 4 days so I won't have to miss any of the demonstrations etc, which is way over the top. :-( And no, I don't have facebook account.
you honestly could participate, in my opinion! I cannot believe you've only made 14 cakes! do you mean 14 show cakes or 14 cakes in total? either way, you are amazing! We've got directTv so we already have food network. I'm addicted to their cake challenges. It is amazing what these artist can do! I don't think I've ever seen the tulsa competion. I'll have to be on the look out for it. and you should get a facebook account. Its cool, for me, because I can stay connected with old friends and stay involved in my community (a lot of my church is on facebook too!) You can post pictures of family, friends, cakes, etc. If you get on it, look me up, beth muller
That's so amazing! I have a friend with the same last name! :-)
I have made 14 fondant cakes( total) from scratch. My first one was for a friend of mine's babyshower which was in August. You've probably seen it, the basket with the baby?
I'm seriously thinking about cable..but with the economic situation right now we try to tighten the belt. On the other hand we rarely have time to watch TV, I get all my news and stuff from Internet, so it's kind of not justified, but we'll see. About facebook, I am really not sure I can have one more account in a place like this. I have at least 4 in other websites with the same purpose, and they need maintaining if you want them to be useful, which I really don't have the time to do, but will think about it :-) If you have skype or ICQ you can find me there too :-)
Took me time to read the whole article, the article is great but the comments bring more brainstorm ideas, thanks.
