Painting fever - the new living room!

Hi guys,
I've been busy, busy, busy! This weekend's project was the living room ( long overdue).
Before we painted it was eggshell color and in my opinion it wasn't painted at least 4-5 years, because the walls were in horrible condition.
Unfortunately, I don't have a picture " before" that can show how bad it was, only one from when we moved in:
Since then, we've bought new curtains ( golden color), new shelves from Amazon, 2 candle holders and the clock over the fireplace. The latter I bought from Michael's.
I've chosen Olympic paint again ( as low odor as possible), the shade is C11-3 Weeping Willow, relaxing green shade I love.
Unfortunately ( again) I am still with my old camera, so the pictures are as bad as you can get, sorry about that,. Still, it can give you an idea how it looks right now, although the real room looks way better then on the pictures :-).

I am pretty pleased with how it all turned out. I am still dreading next weekend when we are going to paint the kitchen, since it is all covered in wallpaper. We had hell of a time trying to scrape the wallpaper in the bathroom, so I can't even imagine how much work we would have in the kitchen.
I'll keep you posted how it would turn out!
Oh, and I am happy to say I have a pretty good idea what I am making about the cake challenge. As soon as we finish with the kitchen I'll make the cake. Be patient and at the end of the month I'll show pictures :-)

Ani,
I did the baptism cake I told you about earlier! I think it turned out very well. Check it out, beththecakelady.googlepages.com. It's under shower cakes, the 2nd baptism cake. what do you think?

Hi Beth!
The fondant is way smoother than the previous ones! Good job done!!! I like it, you have definitely improved your technique and the result is a beautiful cake! With what kind of fondant are you working- home made or store bought? Do you crumb coat with icing the cake before you place the fondant on top? I am asking these questions so I can make a suggestion about a thing or two. :-)
Overall, I like it very much! And the design is original as well! One thing I would have done is to have the flowers a little brighter color, since the fondant is not white white, they kind of blend with it, a little bit more color would have gone a long way or the other thing you could always do is paint on top of them with food coloring and a brush (on the edges and the middle) to just make them 3D :-)
Very good! I can't wait for your next cake! Keep me posted!

The design is so not original. it's from the wilton 2007 year book, magical marriage! (there's a reason I did the magical marriage cake for a baptism. they call the baby their pint sized princess, and the theme of the cake is like cinderella-ish.) But thanks! I do coat the cakes with buttercream the day before. I made marshmellow fondant using the cake journal's recipe. Why, watcha got up your sleeve? Oh, I spelled your name wrong, I saw benson's way of spelling it! Sorry!

Oh, I don't read the Wilton magazine, so I wouldn't have known :-) About crumb coating of the cake- I would do a little bit thicker layer and perhaps leave it to harden in the refrigerator before covering it with fondant. This way the icing would tolerate a little bit more pressure when smoothing so the cake under the fondant sheet wouldn't show. I haven't worked with MM fondant, but it seems a better consistency than the one that you used before, that's why I asked :-)! Don't worry about the name :-) In Bulgarian people spell it that way ( Ani) in English they spell it ( Annie), it sounds the same, so it doesn't really matter :-)

what fondant do you use? I realized after I layed the fondant on the cake that I needed a thicker layer of buttercream on the cake. but it was a little too late! I learn more with each cake! take care and talk to you later!Beth

Beth, I use these recipes:

You are completely right, I do the same thing, I learn a little bit more with each cake! :-)
I can't wait to try the cake for the cake challenge, I'll keep you all posted how it turns out :-)
